Roses and Thorns – Day 1

27 Oct

I don’t know if anyone else out there is familiar with the game of Roses, Thorns and Toot Toots but if the answer is no – then it’s time to hear all about it! I learned this game at camp and I have played it with kids I’ve babysat ever since. The idea is that every night before you go to bed you think of one Rose, one Thorn and one Toot Toot:

- Rose: Something positive about your day. Whatever really stood out and made you happy that day.

- Thorn: Something negative about your day. I like to do “Thorn with a silver lining” wherever possible in order to keep things extra positive. There’s no denying that sometimes your day can be really sucky and you just need to admit how upset you are. But most of the time I like to think about what I’ve learned from my thorn of the day and how it wasn’t the end of the world.

- Toot Toot: Something that happened that day that you’re proud of. Whether it’s finally getting the floors vacuumed or finishing a project you’ve been working on for weeks – if it makes you proud, it’s worthy of a toot toot.

I’m going to aim to share my roses, thorns and toot toots every night if I can. I want to focus on each day’s events and appreciate life even more. I would be absolutely honored if you would share your roses, thorns and toot toots with me as well. I learned this game at camp so I was always sharing my thoughts with a group of cabinmates. It is always more fun to share your thoughts and feelings and hear about how others are doing. So please post your very own roses, thorns and toot toots! Here are mine for tonight:

Rose: That I got to go see a show a bunch of my friends were in. And I went with some great people so I had a very fun evening.

Thorn with a silver lining: That I closed at work last night and opened this morning so I got very little sleep. But I managed to function the whole day without feeling too exhausted so it wasn’t the end of the world.

Toot Toot: That I wrote a poem and brought some candy to the cast of the show I saw. I’ve been trying to give more people gifts “just because” to let them know I care and this was an excellent step forward!

So there are mine – please share yours!

That sounds like a pretty good day in the end! I’ve never had the pleasure of being part of a Diwali celebration but I really hope I get to one day!
